Summer is one of my favorite seasons however the heat can be a challenge – especially when you have a newborn on the way – so it is important to prepare accordingly. Not only do you have to worry about keeping your new baby at the proper temperature, you also have to keep the UV rays in check!
In terms of apparel, cotton is the best choice for infants as it keeps them cool and comfortable. Of course, organic cotton is even better which is why giggle’s Better Basics layette is such an excellent choice. Baby gowns come in a set of two and are my personal favorite because the bottom is elasticized making diaper changes a breeze.
Tea Collection’s adorable multicolored bodysuits are simply beautiful and stylish enough to wear on their own during a hot day. With their original and unique patterns inspired by vintage Japanese textiles, these little gift sets are in a class all their own.
If you are spending quite a bit of time outside, you’ll want to check out some of the following products to keep your baby protected. Sunscreen is not always recommended because most aren’t suitable for newborns, however there are a couple that can be used on sensitive skin. The hypoallergenic Mustela formula is an all-round favorite among many parents and celebrities for newborns. For babies 3 months and older, check out Supergoop!, an award-winning, eco-friendly sunblock formulated with the specific standards put out by the Environmental Working Group.
Even if you’re using sunscreen, you’re still going to want to make sure your infant is in a shaded area as much as possible. If you plan to wear your baby in a BabyBjorn carrier often, get their loose breathable sun cover which includes a detachable sun hood. If long stroller walks are in your future, keep in mind that most provide minimal sun coverage so a stroller shade is great for extending that protection all of the way to their feet! In the car, a sunshade kit will shade the sun’s more intense summer rays.
And now, I’ve saved the very best for last! aden + anais swaddle blankets are quite simply the very best on the market. What makes them so special? The soft, lightweight muslin allows for better airflow and temperature moderation thanks to it’s light open weave. Not only are they excellent for swaddling, these beautiful wraps can be used as burp cloths, sun shades, nursing covers and lightweight blankets.
*Please always be sure to check with your pediatrician before using any kind of sunscreen on your newborn.
