10 Tips for “healthy.happy.gifting.”

In the mad hustle of the holidays, it’s easy to start to feel like the Christmas spirit gets a bit lost in the craziness. After years studying parents with their families, we’ve come up with our giggle “10 tips for healthy.happy.gifting.” that I shared with the Real Simple team at their Rockefeller Center pop-up shop last week and share them all with you now:

1. Give Back – Make giving back a priority with gifts that are more than just for them.
2. Be Practical – It’s okay to teach that it’s okay to gift essentials – one of my all-time favorite annual stocking stuffers as a kid was socks embroidered lovingly by my grandma with my initials!
3. Get Creative – DIY starts by example; make the gift even better by making it personal.
4. Get Physical Together – Giving the gift of time, especially time outdoors together, can be one of the healthiest & happiest gifts you can give.
5. Act LocalHandcrafted artisan gifts can be not just great finds, but also a great excuse to connect your little one with the local community.
6. Turning Old Into New – Recycled products teach that sometimes the best new gift is an old one.
7. Good Enough to Eat – Handcrafted activity/creativity gifts can and should be good enough (nontoxic/natural) to eat.
8. Together Time – Not that you need any excuses to cuddle, but can you ever really snuggle too much?!
9. Go Organic – Walk the talk; cute can also be healthier and more responsible.
10. Give the Gift of Doing for Others – Sometimes the best gifts cannot be wrapped

In the end, the thing your little ones will most remember when they recount their holiday family memories is not what you wrapped up in the box but everything else that went into that special time of year.  So slow down, and enjoy.  Happy.Happy.Holidays. – from me, and the team at giggle.
